  1. The Plessy vs. Ferguson Court Case had great impact in the development of African American equal rights. This court case ruled that separate but equal was allowed and did not violate the 14th Amendment. However, in the Brown vs. Board of Education Court Case later stated that school segregation is unconstitutional because it violates the 14th Amendment. Equal Womens rights also became relevant during this time period. Many activist women's groups formed to help push for equal rights for women. These groups led to the Suffrage Movement from 1890 to 1920 to push for voting rights for women. In 1920, the 19th Amendment was passed and guaranteed women voting rights.

    1. The segregation in schools is not constitutional because the students were not given equal conditions and equal opportunities. The Little Rock Nine was the first attempt at integrating African Americans into an all white school. The students received discrimination from both students and parents.

    2. I believe it is also important to say The Little Rock Nine had to support of the military as they went to school because the rioting was so bad.

  2. Multiple groups were faced with discrimination and limited rights because of their race or gender. They wanted to be fully recognized as citizens, so they fought for their rights. One way to obtain rights was through different court cases and the rulings because of them. Sometimes people would be used to make an existing issue more urgent.

  3. An example for the push for women's equality can shown by the National American Women Suffrage Association (NAWSA). NAWSA wanted a huge expansion in women's rights mostly wanting to secure suffrage wanted, also wanted to ban alcohol and create maximum hours and minimum wage laws for women. Examples for African American equality are talked about above with the Little Rock Nine.
